From One String to Twelve Notes: Turning the Textbook's Vague “Timbre” Into Numbers
The textbook says sound has three properties: pitch, loudness, timbre. It gives you a number for the first two and a word for the third. Starting from “something is vibrating,” this piece turns that third word into numbers — and along the way derives the seven notes, the twelve semitones, and 440 Hz.
